EDUCATIONAL EXCEPTION
-
If you need a note about the activities we will be doing for any Educational Exception for schools, here is a summary
The scouts of Troop 58 will be working on our core aims in scouting "citizenship". We will be discussing "What does it mean to be a citizen?". We will also discuss doing our civic duty and taking every opportunity we must to provide service to our country, whether through the military, political office, or community projects, and how doing so strengthens our nation. As part of this program, we will be traveling to Kitty Hawk where we will immerse them in the history of North Carolina. We'll be visiting the Wright Brothers memorial to learn about the physics of flight, including lift, weight, thrust, and drag and examine the 1903 Flyer reproduction to understand how the brothers used scientific method to solve the "three problems of flight". We will also visit Bodie Lighthouse to learn about its role in the "Graveyard of the Atlantic" and how lighthouses served as vital navigational aids before modern GPS. The weekend wraps up at Oregon Inlet as we watch the day's catch come in.
